Letreros, muchos letreros

Via facebook, alguien compartió una fabulosa compilación del New York Times que contiene letreros en muchos lugares del mundo. En muchos casos los problemas con los letreros vienen de la mala traducción, pero en otros es simplemente las diferentes idiosincracias de cada lugar que los hacen tan cómicos. Me pasé un buen rato muerta de risa con algunos ejemplos. Les dejo aca unos cuantos números de mis favoritos (las fotos no se pueden copiar).

Aprovecho para dejarles la página oficial del gobierno federal para prevención de la influenza. Ahi siempre se pueden ver los números y comunicados oficiales para evitar confusión de cifras y declaraciones.

Actualización: encontré la recomendación de un blog que contiene muy buenas explicaciones técnicas. Las opiniones políticas me parecen discutibles, pero el contenido técnico es claro y útil.

Here is the Washington Post's Mensa invitational - which once again asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition.

Here are the winners:

1. Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period of time.
2. Ignoranus (n.): A person who's both stupid and an asshole.
3. Intaxication (n.): Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with.
4. Reintarnation (n.): Coming back to life as a hillbilly.
5. Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future.

Que poca madre (y padre)

Pues ahi tienen que un amigo mandó un e-mail pidiendole a conocidos que votaran por su bebé como "el bebé de la semana" en una página de red. Yo que soy muy acomedida, inmediatamente accedí a la petición, pero una vez marcado mi voto, no pude evitar leer los nombres de los demás pequeños en concurso. Quedé vivamente impresionada con la cantidad de nombres que van de horrorosos a inenarrables. Es claro que hay mucha gente que no está pensando en la salud mental (y hasta física) de sus infantes cuando les pone semejantes nombres. Ahi les va mi cosecha.
